When looking to have work done, it’s important you find the right plumber for the job. With this in mind it’s imperative you understand the different types of plumbers there are and what they are qualified for. Here we will quickly go over the three different classifications used to identify the expertise level of a plumber.
Apprentice Plumber:
As the title implies, these are the novice plumbers. Apprentice plumbers have a lot of on the job experience, but none of the qualifications necessary to undergo a project on their own. As you may already gather, these are not the types of plumbers you’ll typically find working on your plumbing alone. Apprentice plumbers must accumulate at least three years of on the job training before they qualify for a license.
Journeyman plumber:
Next we have the journeyman plumber. This is the next step up from the apprentice plumber, and make up a majority of the plumbers you will find working the field. These plumbers are licensed professionals, and can typically be trusted to work on any issues you are having. Journeyman plumbers are most common and have extensive knowledge on a wide variety of plumbing issues.
Master plumber:
At the top of the food chain you will find the master plumbers. Master plumbers are, as the name implies, masters of the field and have many years of experience. These plumbers are required to pass an exam to wear the title. As expected, they are the most experienced and reliable of the three different types of plumbers. They are also focused on aspects outside of plumbing alone such as the business side of plumbing.
When deciding who you need for the job, it is typically going to be a journeyman you are looking for. That being said, it doesn’t hurt to be informed so that you know what questions to ask when seeking out the perfect fit for the job. Every tier of plumbers are necessary to ensure all clients are satisfied with the level of work they need done. With that said a simple task will not require a master plumber, and a more complex task will not be completed with an apprentice alone.
