CHOOSING A SUMP PUMP

There are two types of sump pump installations: a pedestal sump pump and a submersible sump pump, it's important to have in mind which one would be the best fit for your needs. They both offer different benefits and challenges, but our team can help you decide on the best one for you.

Pedestal Sump Pump

A pedestal sump pump is easy to maintain as they sit on top of the sump pit. They are the cheaper option but are prone to overheating and take up more space. Pedestal sump pumps cannot be fully submerged in water, thus leaving the pump exposed.

Submersible Sump Pump

Unlike the pedestal pump, the submersible sump pump sits inside the sump pit and is fully submersible. Takes up less space and is typically more expensive, but lasts longer than a pedestal sump pump. While this setup is more protected, it makes it more difficult to access for maintenance.

MAINTENANCE

Most sump pumps don’t demand much maintenance, but they do need to be inspected and tested regularly — at least annually. This simple test can help us address any issues before they occur, allowing you to rest easy for another year. WAYS TO PROVIDE PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE


If you’re in between inspections, it’s still important to keep an eye out for issues with your sump pump. It's necessary that you do regular maintenance and inspections on your sump pump to ensure it is working correctly. There are a few tests you can do at home to figure out if your sump pump is in working order. Here are a few of them:

  • Make certain the pump is connected to a steady power source.
  • Test the pump. Slowly pour water into the sump pump until the pump switch is triggered. Water should be quickly drained out.
  • Clean out the different grates and pipes in the sump pump to ensure that there is no dirt or other debris clogging the pump.
