If by reading the title you’re skeptical then keep reading, you’ll have another reason to keep buying your favorite soda. Yes, who would’ve thought Coke isn’t as bad as people portray it to be. How can something so bubbly and delicious be frowned upon? Truth is any sugary liquid should be consumed in moderation but you’ll want to stock up on some more bottles on your next trip to the grocery store.
Does Coke really unclog drains well, YES it actually can. It does much more than a normal commercial drain cleaning liquid but, that’s an added bonus at the end! So if it unclogs drains how does it work? Here’s how. Phosphoric acid is the answer, it is one of the main ingredients in soda. It consists of being colorless, odorless and tangy. It’s really what gives soft drinks their zesty flavor and at the same time it’s what prevents the growth of mold and bacteria which does especially well in a sugary solvent… remember this part for later. The majority of the acidic flavor from soda comes directly from the phosphoric acid itself. Now how does it work to unclog either your toilet drain or any clogged pipe in your home? Well, Phosphorus acid when poured in a clogged drain will strip down the accumulated build up in and around the affected area. Buildups of gunk are not always visible when we observe our pipes but if you flash a light down the drain and you’ll realize it’s best to not shine that light and act like we can’t see it.
So what are the steps to unclog that stubborn drain. First you’ll want to have at least one 2-Liter Coke bottle but having two 2-Liter Coke bottles is best to make sure it is more than enough to allow room for error. You’ll want to pour one bottle into your toilet bowl and let it sit for 1-2 hours or more if desired. Once the time is up you’ll want to pour a medium to large size pot of billing water down the toilet bowl. What you’ll notice is an immediate response of the water being flushed away. If you don’t happen to get these results you’ll want to repeat these steps once more. After repeating these steps twice with no major results contact a trusted plumber to unclog your drain. This Coke method may not work due to something obstructing the path or maybe it’s time for a new toilet. But don’t worry most plumbers are able to fix the problem within the same day you make the call so don’t worry about having just one toilet in your home!
As promised if you’ve made it this far here’s an added bonus so you don’t feel bad for pouring money (soda) down the drain, no pun intended! Ever notice that toilet cleaners don’t always get rid of toilet bowl stains, well next time your toilet gets clogged or you want like to improve the appearance of your toilet bowl follow the steps above by letting the Coke sit for an hour, after the hour is done you’ll want to scrub your toilet bowl as you would if you were using a cleaning agent. After a few minutes of scrubbing continue the next step of pouring boiling water into the toilet bowl. Repeat this process about every month and it will continuously improve your toilets’ appearance.
